What is People Helping People (PHP)?
In simple terms PHP is a new initiative being launced by A4e where people pledge their time to help other people. That could be with a paticular skill they have that could help someone else or simply offering to spend a few hours doing something positive.
The idea is that by starting a Global PHP Movement in communitites everywhere, people will begin to kick off initiatives to improve issues they want to deal with and start building a positive network of individuals that want to work everywhere to make a difference.

Well it says what it is on the tin. The idea is that we, A4e, have the ability to encourage and empower people to help other people in any way they can. We become the foundation and the platform for this to happen. The vision is simple and is summed up by our Emma herself:
“PHP is a global movement - where people say - I am a person who loves to help other people. I am part of PHP. It's aim is to give us all a wonderful sense of purpose and it is a thing that we can all do. PHP builds communities, friendships, self esteem, confidence and happiness.”
So how do we make a start?
PHP is about not waiting for the cavalry to come over the hill - not standing back and hoping someone will come and "fix" our community - or waiting for the "Government" to allocate funding to resolve a neighbourhood crisis - let's all agree that we are people who like to help other people and do just that. So to this end, let’s start with our own people at A4e.
As Emma states:
"On a very prosaic level I was also aware that we are about to launch FND the most innovative, personal and advanced programme of support for unemployed people that I think the world has ever seen - and yet....there was something missing. A4e has invested millions, staff have worked tirelessly, partners are pulling out all the stops - BUT ding ding - we have failed to capture the energy and skills of the hundreds of thousands of people who will be in receipt of the service. Just imagine that if every one of the people we work with were asked if they wanted to be part of PHP - it could be truly world changing.”
The PHP Pledge Card
A4e are starting with creating PHP Pledge cards. The card is a way in which you can pledge your support to the cause, and it can be anything from teaching someone to play the guitar, as they want to be in a band, to helping someone do their shopping as they have injured their leg. Anything you want, just fill it in and we will let you know what happens next.
